With NURBS modelling programs you get what you pay for but if my
info is correct MOPS might be good for getting a feeling for
NURBS modelling and it's free.

I heard that rhino is a good modeeler for NURBs is that correct. Is that
worth the pricetag though??

You can decide by yourself, as there is FREE trial version downloadable
(you can run it 20 times, after that it doesn't save, IIRC). Go to
http://www.rhino3d.com
But I would say, that it is well worth of price (especially if you are a
student).

Your are right in saying that POV can render anything.
It has more power then even ElectricImage, it's just that it can be REALLY
*REALLY* hard!
