I am a NEW "user", in that I am trying to get POV-Ray to run on my MAC.
I downloaded the program without any problem but when I launch it, a
text box appears saying I need to get "appearance extension". So I went
to the suggested Apple site and find a title "Appearance 1.03" and I
commenced to download it. When I saw how large the file size was, I
thought maybe this was the wrong item to feed the MAC with. But I
downloaded it anyway. It downloaded "100%" but just sat there, Aladdin
wouldn't unstuff it. Am using OS 7.6 on a Performa 6360, if that
helps....Any suggestions? ...Thanks in advance and Merry

This may sound stupid, but it is highly unlikely that there is any problem on the
Apple side or yours directly, usually this is simply a faulty download: The best
advice would be to try once more and in case this does not work as well, contact the
Apple webmaster(s).

I had to do the same thing. I use a Quadra 660av (a 68040 cpu) and am
still running System 7.1
I downloaded "Appearance_SDK_1.0.3_v1.0.1.sit" and it unStuffed okay.
The SIT file was about 2,934 Kbytes
I was worried about piling on yet another extension into my System
Folder, but it doesn't seem to have any conflicts with software that I
was running before. POV-Ray 3.1 has been running okay.
