Hello artists,

I'm a beginner with POV, but even now I can see that it is a more than
fantastic program ! But for the moment I've some trouble with a
height_field...
I want to make a real hill I know in POV. So with the help of a
surfer-program I converted the real world data (from a map) to an image (in
GIF format) usable as a height_field. I use the modifier SMOOTH in POV. And
indeed I get a beautiful hill but there are some artefacts on the surface I
can't get rid off! There are wrinkling lines on the surface of my hill. I
tried to filter them out with HF-Lab and it worked when I viewed the result
in HF-Lab. But as soon as I save the picture and load it again, the damned
lines are back again, in POV and in HF-Lab. What is wrong ??? If you want to
help me, I can email you the GIF-image (118 kb).

Thanks

For what I can think of, the only thing I can advise you is to increase the size
of your image , it will smooth out your height_field. (even though a 118 Kb for
a Gif file is large already).
But as far as you are not limited with memory don't be afraid of doubling or
tripling your image size.
