OK - a couple of Q's which I'd appreciate help with.
To set the scene I'm currently toying with beta 6 of POV-Ray 3.1 (and
learning, oh so slowly).
1. How to use color map with an image?
Basically how can I use an image to indicate not the exact pigment,
but which pigment to use from a list of colours. At the moment I'm
using a to-tone image map to place some text on one side of a box, and
I select between two different bitmaps in order to acheive "the"
colour. Ideally I'd like to use just one bitmap and be able to set the
colours via POV-Ray "code".
2. How can I emulate a "painted" texture?
So far I've not proven very adept in the use of textures. What I'd
like to acheive is a slightly variable surface suggestive of uneven
coats of paint. Brush strokes would be an additional bonus. My object
size is nominally around 50 * 80 * 50 (x * y * z) although obviously
it gets scaled from time to time. The "Units" when unscaled correspond
to real-world inches.
3. How can I "dirty" an item?
I've had great fun in the past "damaging" items with dents patterns -
but is there any easy way to apply scratches and/or dirt? The latter
and possibly the former would directly affect the pigmentation (I'm
thinking about dirt as a residue of some rubbish or other which has
struck the object in much the same manner as a car's surface gets
splattered with muck over time).
Any assistance would be appreciated, but if you try e-mailing me watch
