Fire-up POVray and on the tool bar click Docs. Beginning in Section 4.0
is the basic tutorial section. Start there by copying the first set of
code instructions that you find. It will take you step by step through
your first scene starting with some #includes then your camera { } then
some light_source {} and then an object {} - if I remember right it was
a sphere {}. All this will be copied to a New File which you selected
from the File menu in the POVray main window (File is in the upper left
corner). Save as... the file under any name you want then click the
little camera in the top/center of the main window. Once oyu've rendered
your first scene start playing and tweaking with things in the code like
the size of the sphere, the colors, scaling, positiong, camera effects,
etc. Once you've gotten comfortable with that move on down through the
sections in the tutorial - twisting and tweaking along the way. With a
lot of patience and in no time flat you'll be running like a pro.

p.s. There is no law against cut&paste code from the help files and
tutorial onto your scene file. <smile>
