2007 has brought updates to existing distributed rendering systems, as well as a
few brand new ones. HTTPov ( http://columbiegg.com/httpov/ ) is one of the
latter, and likely the last of 2007. It is built around an unpatched POV-Ray,
and designed to be run unobtrusively in the background of plain unixish
machines; Windows with Cygwin installed is considered unixish in this context,
as well as Linux and various forms of BSD. The communication with the central
server is done via HTTP, and the system is capable of handling animations as
well as sliced still images.
