Some time ago there has been the question asked in povray.general if
POV-Ray can be used for simulating optical behaviour of metamaterials.

An article has just been published in Optics Express that does exactly this:

http://www.opticsexpress.org/abstract.cfm?id=88325

I am happy to mention that it has been found (with a little help from me
;-)) that the algorithms used by POV-Ray are fully capable of handling
negative IOR values.

The article contains some POV-Ray made images and animations
illustrating how optical metamaterials would look like. Images and
scene files can also be found on:

Hehe. Wegener is my physics prof! The world is small isn't it? :D
