As not only me but also plenty of others seem to be unable to
get the latest built doing anything under MacOS 9.1/9.2,
and there also seems only to be modest interest in fixing this:

Is it possible to compile a commandline version of 3.5 for MacOS 9
for those of us who really need to stick with OS 9 for a while?

Look back to a post "mac versions" on (Sun, 08 Sep 2002) by David
Burnett... They seem to have a reasonable unix patch i believe that
would do... ??

I don't know what use you think a command line version would be on a
platform without a command line, but just be patient, we are working to
fix these problems. Working on a Mac command line version would only
slow this down.

You can compile the Unix version to run under Mac OS X, but this is
useless under OS 9.
