Since I moved my MacOS to Tahoe, POVRay does not work any more. I am constantly
getting the message: Cannot create render state output file. Does anyone have a
fix for this?

(not using Apple, so "sticking my neck out") a permission problem ? ie is the
directory where POV-Ray would like to output to owned by you (or you have
sufficient rights) ?

I'm also not an Apple OS user, but...
1) If you are using a v3.8 based version of POV-Ray, a workaround should
be the command line flag '-cc' or the ini command
'create_continue_trace_log=off'.
2) Another thought. Perhaps one or more state files existed prior to
your OS upgrade due prior aborts for the scene. If so, maybe something
with ownership or permissions is different enough after the upgrade
POV-Ray cannot over-write the existing state file for a scene? This a
wild guess - as probably you've tried multiple scenes.

The error is also thrown if you have specified a folder in the command line,
that does not exist.
povray +Imypovray.pov +Otest/povray.png +w800 +h600 -GR +A
If the "test" folder does not exist, this error message appears.
Has happened to me 1000 times.

For testing purposes, you can give POV full access to the disk.
System settings -> Privacy & Security -> Full Disk Access, then add POVRay.

I have tried this, but still no success. I am using
POV-Ray v3,8,0-alpha.9606898.unofficial

Hi,
Is your issue solved?
I had exactly the same issue under Tahoe. It was related to the option
in the Preferences panel >> Misc tab, “Redirect All Output Images To
This Folder”. The path to the folder was incorrect.
The path was wrong; for some reason my output folder was located
somewhere else.
It is also often related to permissions, so in any case check whether
the location where the file needs to be written is available and that
you have the correct permissions.
If you are not using the option in the Misc tab, check where the input
file is located; the output will then be written to that same location.
I also see that you are using version 3.8.0-alpha.9606898.unofficial,
which comes from the site
http://megapov.inetart.net/povrayunofficial_mac/. This is a very old
version.
Only use the newer versions that you can find here:
