When I download Beta 169 and try to run it, it informs me that it's
missing pieces and can't run.

Could you please be a little more specific about the message the program
is giving you? This will help facilitate a more meaningful reply.

Sorry. The exact error message is:
This install of POV-Ray is incomplete or damaged. You have to reinstall
POV-Ray.
Some files required to run POV-Ray are missing. You should not move or
remove parts inside the POV-Ray folder.
(And then there's a "quit" button).
I have done nothing but unpack it and move it from the disk image to my
applications folder.

Make sure the file you click is the application. Some people have reported
that the root level application icon, which should be an alias, is in fact a
copy of the application. Run the application in the "POV-Ray Mac 3.5
Folder" folder and it will always work.

I can confirm this : the root level application icon in the "POV-Ray
3.5" folder is build 169 of RC6 and has a long version string of
"POV-Ray 3.5.RC.6[..]", whereas the application in the "POV-Ray Mac 3.5
Folder" folder is build 167 and has a long version version string of
"POV-Ray 3.5.RC.5[..]".
So, Jill, the best thing to do is probably to
1) rename the application in the in the "POV-Ray Mac 3.5 Folder" folder
to "POV-Ray Mac 3.5 (167)"
2) make an alias of the correct application, which is in the "POV-Ray
Mac 3.5" folder.
3) move the application (not the alias) from the "POV-Ray Mac 3.5"
folder to the "POV-Ray Mac 3.5 Folder" subfolder.
Stephane.
