POV-ray version 3.1g complaints that it is a beta version and has
expired. Today I downloaded it again form pov-ray.org but the downloaded
version gives the same complain.

Any suggestions?

The Macintosh source code has a line that was accidentally left
uncommented. If this line is commented and POV is recompiled, the
problem dissappears.
The line is in PovMacInit.h, line 71

Will there be a compiled version with this commented made public? Some
of us don't have access to a compiler

Thank you Chris. Unfortunately I don't have a C or C++ compiler. I think
I'll be forced to take some pov-ray holidays.

You can get it back by setting the clock back, and according to
Thorsten, a fixed version will be made available very soon.
