Can this be trivially implemented with the appropriate parameters for crackle,
or is it more involved?

From what I see, POV-Ray's crackle pattern essentially /is/ (3D) Worley
noise.

    crackle form <A,B,C>

will give you A*F_1(x) + B*F_2(x) + C*F_3(x).
