I have a big mesh file with 38 separate groups.
I want to take one of those and save it separately to further work on it.
It's less than obvious how to do this.

If you can see only one group with the group tab of PoseRay (as is with your
bony leg) then you must use Wings or something alike, select the seperated mesh
and "export selected". Within a Wavefront OBJ-File (exported slt from Blender)
you can have several groups within one object, but they can be defined using
only one or no group likewise. You can check this by loading the OBJ-file into
a text editor and look for lines starting with "g ". In this case PoseRay cannot
find the seperated objects since they are not defined as a group. With Wings you
can select one face on the desired part, add adjacent faces (+ key) until you
have this "group".

If you find several groups within PoseRays groups tab, you can select and
deselect them simply by clicking on them. PoseRay will only export the selected
groups.

Best regards,
Michael

Ah, I was imprecise again :( There is a difference with the definitions of
"groups". Within an OBJ-file one can define groups with a line starting with "g
". Only this ones PoseRay will find. As I put it, your understanding of a
"group" is a "group" of faces seperated from the rest of the mesh. This is not a
"group" within an OBJ file.

Best regards,
Michael

I separated all the bones (I think with Wings)
and when Poseray imports the obj file, it imports all the pieces - the separated
mesh objects as "groups". In the GROUPS tab of Poseray, I have a listing of 38
of those - 1 for each bone, and a box. It would be helpful to select ONE of
those and export it all on its own to an STL file or OBJ file.

I did however hand-select and copy-paste one bone as a mesh2 object, and save
separately.

#declare Tibia_Scan = mesh2 {
vertex_vectors{
6986,
<6.771417,59.29356,-23.69868>,
<6.776458,59.88761,-23.96153>,
<7.215218,59.25545,-23.83423>,.....
..
..
normal_vectors{
41904,
......
..
..
..
face_indices{
13968,
......
..
..
normal_indices{
13968,
..
..

Can I import this into a mesh-processing program?

In the Groups tab, click Tools then select "All invisible" and every
thing in the preview will disappear. Now to the right of each group is a
crossed out cube. Click one of them and the group will be visible. That
is how you can select the one you want to export as an OBJ file of a Pov
file.

With PoseRay 3.13.16: Go to the groups tab. Select only the group you
want from the list on the left by making sure that group is the only one
with a checkmark. Click on Remove Non-Visible Groups at the bottom of
the tab. Then you can export the modified obj file.

good luck,
