My school just handed out new tablets and, unfortunately, every single one is
loaded with the latest version of windows. Is POV compatible with windows 7,
or should I go with the linux version?

It hasn't been tested thoroughly with Windows 7, but it'll probably work
fine,
it works under Vista.

I tested the POVray3.7 beta 34 (64 bit) on Windows 7 Ultimate RC 64bit and it
ran fine until I hit it with a gazillion photons. It burped as it reached 8GB
of memory usage and Windows wouldn't give it any more (2GB physical and 6GB
swap). ;o)
Otherwise I didn't have any problems
