OK, it seems round 5 of the short competition is going to happen.
The details may still be tweeked up to the end of November but here is an
initial web page

Please forward any comments, complaints, suggestions either through this forum
or directly by email to myself.
In particular:
1. Is 512 bytes too much? How about 384 (256+512)/2
2. Is the end of January too long a competition period?

Could the submission this time support sending the data as files instead
of copy-pasting the file contents into textfields? The textfields mess up
whitespace and maybe something else. Being able to send a file (eg. a zip
file) would make sure that nothing is modified.

Plusses: a cleaner demonstration of the power of povray.
Minusses: what, no transforms.inc?  makes for a lamer anim.

Umm, why?  Let's make it a standard fare.  Everyone having the same amount of
things happening per second. I wouldn't want someone to lose out based on a
clueless choice in frame rate if everything else were spiffy.

There is a typo: Entries may be submitted up to midnight of the 31st January 2006.
The deadline is 2006, it should be 2008!

I'll address all queries/comments in one email to avoid clutter...

1. "What, no transforms.inc?". What do potential entrants think, should #include
of standard POVRay distribution files be allowed? It was allowed in round 3 and
not in round 4, didn't seem to be a problem. Is transforms.inc for an animation
round a special case?

2. Query about why should the frame rate come into it. Well there are different
types of animation, for some types of movement smooth is good/required, for
others it would just happen all to fast. I need to impose some sort of limit on
the number of frames for practical purposes, having a frame rate permits slide
show style up to smooth (probably periodic) action over a short period. Another
way to answer the original query "I wouldn't want someone to lose out based on a
clueless choice in frame rate" .... I don't expect "clueless' people to
enter. :-)

3. Regarding typos, thanks ... that is the very reason for putting it online and
asking for feedback.

4. "Upload files rather than copy-pasting the file contents into textfields". I
appreciate the point and I used that a little while back for another process
and ended up with a surprising number of problems with different browsers. The
copy/paste seemed to work fine in the previous rounds and on the basis that
I'll reuse the automated system I developed for that, I'm inclined to leave it
as it is.

That is really up to the individual. Some people would rather keep the
anonymity.

If you would like to "own" the image with your name then I'm more than happy to
include it. You can obviously have personal information in the comments file.

And retrospectively, if anyone would like their names added to their previous
round entries, just let me know by email.

But you can't use it for the contest. The include file alone is 7KB.
