I posted a program to convert World Machine 32-bit float output to
16-bit grayscale PNG. It's in povray.binaries.utilities . It's a Win32
console application.

Thought I'd better say it here as well as it seems not many people
read p.b.u

Feedback appreciated esp. on bugs.

This is very nice. I haven't had a chance to try the program yet, but maybe
it would be a good idea to mail the author of WM because he is using POV
too, and plans to include more output formats in his program.
