Greetings,
p.g is ok for this I trust, given the amount of other Announce posts here.
If I am incorrect tell me (politely) the correct location, and all such
posts from this point will be directed properly.
I am not ready to post this utility to p.b.u, but wish to release
something, so a link here is what I will give. Requires .NET 4.0 Framework.
http://www.gds-entropy.com/Image2Color_Map.zip (compiled for x86 so the
most people can use it with the least effort; x64 on first beta) I have
250gb/mo on this server, so I will allow this link to work for one week,
and thats it.
This has known bugs, but doesn't barf under normal circumstances. You
cannot currently choose the output directory (defaults to C:\) or file
name (I have been busy with parts of the application which interest me
more). There are known cross-thread issues which prevent reporting of
progress and current operation for some (3) methods (despite having
cross-thread communication delegates, invokers and activators in place).
Cancel thread hasn't really been implemented yet, and I have not
regression or unit tested anything. I am not being paid...so don't
judge... But...BUT..you can still do neat stuff with this. I will fully
rewrite this before a serious release. The UI is also hammered dog-crap,
so you are on your own with this (sorry, no help file)...its just a CTP
Pre-Alpha, so people can mess with it and give feedback, such that my
efforts will be directed more effectively toward the common will.
Things which are currently in (or planned for) development, and are not
present in this release:
1) Full implementation of warp
2) density_map, texture_map, material_map
3) integrated pov-ray preview
4) custom preview scene SDL input
5) pov SDL input for
6) full implementation of rand.inc in c#
7) MathML interpreter
8) better parameterization of variables so they may be easily modified
9) integrated texture editor
10) blend_map as macro
11) sane and reusable XML output. I haven't updated this, so do not select
it. Don't.
12) SRGB, SRGBT, SRGBF, SRGBFT
13) full implementation of blend_map[item value OPERATOR_ENUMERATION
function_enumeration(DYNAMIC_VALUE)]
14) lots of other things planned, code in various stages of
completion...effort dedicated to implementation of planned features is
directly related to interest expressed in this tool. If no one finds this
of use then I will not waste my time in further development unless I need
a particular thing. It already does enough to suit my initial requirement.
If you like this, and want development to continue, let me
know...otherwise it dies, as I have *many* more projects which I am
working on, and wish to waste not even a bit of my time.
If someone else wants to take it over or port to something else, I can
convert to Java or C++. Might work on Mono. Maybe.

Don't let it die! I am going to try this out...
Thanks for your work!

If you do not have the .NET framework 4.0 installed the program will not
function. You can get it here:

I cannot find any output anywhere.... not in C:\ in any case.

It should be an include file directly under C:\ and begin with GDS_
Send me an e-mail at my hotmail account and we'll figure this out.

OK, after talking to Thomas apparently this was some kind of fluke. It
also looks like I *did* enable folder choice for output. Heh. Go figure.
There will be another alpha release soon. I have changed the object model
for cross thread communication to allow me to more easily expand upon the
number of parameters passed without having to alter the signature of the
methods involved. Lots of work to do...I'm moving soon as well so there
may be some delay with any work performed around Feb 4-7.

I already mailed to you with couple of preliminary remarks. Just an
additional comment on this: No, output folder choice does not work. When
filled in, the output is either nor written to the folder or disappears in
limbo :-) Leaving the option blank makes the app write the output to C:\

Ah, very good; I see that now. I will implement those items tonight.

Hmm...well thats an oops. lol..It appears I did indeed forget to wire that
up.

I will take care of the items you mentioned in your e-mail, as well as
updating the XML dump to catch up to currently implemented features, then
post an alpha. I'll let you know when its done.
I have turned off the output color image preview by default, as such
improves speed by a few hundred percent.

I think that is a good idea. It is not really immediatly needed.
