I know that there is at least one include file out there to create
"faked" lightning effects, but it works only with MegaPov, and
apperantly not with the mac version as it doesn't include support for
glows (Or the vaunted Mechanics Simulator, which made me wonder: besides
the savvy interface, what makes it so different from 3.5)
Is it possible to create electrical effects in P.O.V 3.5?

MacMegaPOV 1.0 doesn't include support for glow ? Are you sure ?

22 other points from http://megapov.inetart.net/manual/news.html + manual :-)

Depends on effect probably.

Please note that unofficial version should be rather discussed in
povray.unofficial.patches group.

I'm guessing you must be talking about something Rune Johansen had made. I
know of at least one other person who made a lightning include, for 3.0
(Jeff Brickley) and it had used halo for the ground contact point. I easily
changed it to media for 3.1 so there's no real difficulty in making such
changes; and it of course also works in 3.5.

You can mimic glows by using emitting media, so that's not impossible to do.

I don't know about the POV for Mac but MegaPOV 1.0 does have glows and I
didn't know it had any differences from the other platforms as far as those
kinds of features go.

You are mistaken. The Mac version has all the features MegaPOV has on
other platforms. I rendered a scene with glows not long ago.

There are several lightning scenes and includes in these groups:

There are no differences in core features. MacMegaPOV does have glows.

The MacMegaPOV version supports all the features of MegaPOV, including
glows and Mechanics Simulator.
The MegaPOV versions for different platforms are all compiled from the
same core code and therefore fully synchronised. All MegaPOV-team
members add their changes to the same sources kept in one place.

There is no support yet for the glows and mechsim in the MacMegaPOV
templates. But this doesn't mean that it isn't possible to use them.
