Hello,
about "Loneliness" stills round - imho 2nd, 3rd and artistic-merit images
are *much* nicer then the 1st place image. This blue town ofcourse is
interesting, but in fact - it's just set of simply geometric buildings and
not-complicated textures but with addition with radiosity.
Do You agree ?
Sometimes I think that it would be good idea to have only a few judges, but
that realy use POV for many years and know it very well.
Ofcourse I know that it would require some time spend for this 'work' - but
it's only my wish :)

If you read the comments, many people thought - as you did - that the
textures should have been more intricate. This being said, the creator
of the image probably wanted the viewer to focus on the loneliness of
the insomniac, not how amazing the isosurface bumps of the bricks were
or what the heck was that person thinking when they bought those ugly
curtains!

The IRTC is not POV specific. If the judges were all POV experts, this
could lead to bias against images not done in POV. For example, doing a
good-looking reflective sphere on a checkered plane in Lightwave or
Blender is a lot harder than in POV, so that image would receive only
passable marks, whereas a judge knowledgeable in Blender would certainly
praise the technical merit of the person doing it.
Besides, Bill Marrs had to basically jump through flaming hoops to get
as many voters as we did this round, I prefer getting as many voters as
possible rather than 5 or 10 snotty "pros".
Some people will vote almost only on technical merit, some mostly on
artisitc merit, and not many are willing to give high marks for
interpretation of theme if the technical or artistic aspects are
lacking. With close to 80 people voting, you have more chances of
levelling the scores for artistic and technical merit and get the
overall "best" pictures to win.

For me it's simply the best picture.
Its concept, composition and lighting are perfect and it has a soul most
other pics don't have. Having more complex textures and objects could very
well have ruined it.

First, this is not the rigth group for this post.

No. This is the typical complaint from someone with little artistic
perception.

You haven't read IRTC rules... too bad.

Hopefully! :)

It is nice, but artictic-merit image is IMHO nicer.

Yes, but image has some basic 'mistakes' - like to low AA wisible i.e. on
ladders.

Antialiasing doth not an image make. An unantialiased Gilles Tran
beats the pants off of anything I've done so far WITH antialiasing. ;)
BTW, that winning piece reminds me of the books in Chobits...hehe
'A City with No People'.

Hi, Rafal. As Jaime has already pointed out, we have the irtc.general
group on this news server that is more suited to this topic.
Please re-direct follow-up messages to that group or irtc.stills,
thanks.

Perhaps some of us gag on exhaustively photorealistic scenes. Or scenes
that look like raytraced art attempting to be exhaustively photorealistic.
I didn't vote this round BTW. (didn't enter.)
