This is just a reminder that we are planning to close the upload pages
on October 31st, 2001.
The 10best.raytrace.com project is a benefit for the povray.org server.
We're inviting all povray users to turn in their own favorite 10 images
of theirs. The collection will then be sold as a CD-ROM like the IRTC
CD's. If you have work that you are sharing here on news.povray.org, I
suggest that it's therefore exactly what we're looking for in our
project.
There will be collections of
i) tutorials,
ii) your own 10 best images
iii) a contest for the cover image, judged by Chris Cason head of the
POV-Team.

So far the response has been light (hoping everyone is making full use
of time to ensure the highest quality work. But the work turned in to
date--interesting and eclectic yet breathtakingly artistic-- has already
validated my desire to beat the bushes for artist's favorite work.

Can I submit just one image?

Yes. The idea is to provide (up to) 10 images.

Hi,
While reading the rules for the project I stumbled over this:
> Please do not submit images whose copyrights have been assigned to
> someone else, such as previous IRTC entries.
This is misleading, since the IRTC doesn't have the copyright for the
submitted images!
A quote from "THE STANDARD RAY TRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT":
> The uploaded files are the original work of the entrant, who retains all
> copyright and ownership rights.

> YOU STILL OWN THE FILES! You are not asked to surrender your copyright to us

Ah... well that's different then, isn't it?

Well, you're right. Perhaps the sentence can be reworded, but the
spirit is to not send IRTC images, bcos they are already published (or
are going to be published) on a CD-ROM.
I supose no one wants to end up with a CD where half the images are also
on the IRTC CDs, isn't?
I my self have already decided about 8 of my old, non-IRTC images, but
I was planning to do 2 more "exclusively" for the CD. Unfortunately,
some hardware problems have delayed all my projects, and I will end
submitting surely 10 "already made" images. :(

I suppose most people are going to submit within the last days.
I myself am working on something for the cover image contest, in fact i
started this a year ago... Right now waiting for enough time to render it
in full quality on my new machine because even there it will take some
days.
Also want to rerender some other older images, some of which also take a
lot of time so i will be quite occupied.

There's a clarification on the 10best.html page saying up to 10.

Will we be able to preview the content before buying the CD? (thumbnails
would be enough for me). As much as I love supporting the Pov
community, I'd hate to have the CD turn into a beer coaster because the
only great image has been copied to my hard disk to use as a wallpaper.
