Today I stumbled across a tool to view and filter Pov-Ray df3 files 
called Oosawa which I expect others too would find useful. English page:

I've been playing with it on Ubuntu and seems to work pretty well for 
most things, though, for me the isosurface (mesh creation) feature 
always core dumps with a memory error if the isosurface mode is active 
and a df3 file is loaded. There is too a windows version.

Posting so searches of povray.org will turn up a pointer to it.

Aside: Though some of the internal program names are the same I do not 
believe this 'DF3Viewer' has any relation to the very old 
DF3Maker/DF3Viewer combination of programs.
