There are some features you learn to appreciate only when you do /not/
have them: Testing out the inbuilt render engine of DAZ 4 Pro, I just
spent 15 minutes doing nothing but staring at a progress bar dialog, and
thinking how wonderful it would be if I could do some further work on
the scene in the meantime...

POV-Ray FTW!

I know the feeling.
One advantage of having bought Poser Pro is that rendering is quick. It
uses all the pc's cores. Cloth simulations are much quicker too, as is
saving files.

Which are all reasons why I shall buy Poser Pro sometime in the future
indeed.

..and I see that Poser Pro 2012 has "Background Rendering" too.

What to do is, wait until you have a favourable exchange rate. That is
what I did.
I started off with a free copy of Poser from a PC magazine then
downloaded a free copy of Poser 4 (I think) which enabled me to upgrade
at a discount.
I had not noticed that Pro 2012 had Background Rendering.

Indeed. And the irresistible need for change :-)

I did the same, starting with Poser 5 given away free just before Poser
6 came out, and then upgrading to 7 and 8 with a discount. I did not go
for Poser 9 though.

I saw that in the Features List at the Poser site.
