I've just found out that there's a bug in the expiry code in POVWIN: it
wasn't supposed to expire until 2011 but it's expired today (and shows a
message claiming it's 2011!)
I'll get a fix out ASAP.

Suggestion: Leave the expiry code out completely, it seems to cause more
problems than its worth...

Agreed. Why not just prompt users to download the next version once it
becomes available instead? POV-Ray seems to be able to check for updates
if what I see in the program menus is true.

I'd rather no prompts at all the be honest.
Personally when I fire up an application, I just want to use it, I dont want
to stuff around with pop up windows and other nag windows, I just want to
get in there and type.
Something subtle would be my preference, such as say the small picture top
right of the screen (I would describe it better, but my pov wont work atm as
it has expired for some reason :) The pic could change to something else
that describes a new release (a big B letter perhaps). This way people know
the version they are using is old and that a new one is available, further
more it doesn't interfear with user trying to work.
Cheers Dre

Then you should not be using the beta version of POV-Ray 3.7. POV-Ray 3.6 is
the final release version of POV-Ray, and it gomes free of any nag screens ;-)

One bug "seems to cause more problems than it's worth"? Oh, come on.

That code is there for a reason. That reason is that it's a beta release
and to not have old versions with old uncorrected bugs floating around
after those bugs are resolved. Nobody want to get bug report for old
squashed bugs...
If you don't want to cope with that, then you should stick with the
non-beta version 3.6.

It was only a suggestion.
I have a quad core QX9770 cpu so I'd like to use it...
