Beta 25 for Windows is up. Linux should follow shortly.

For windows users, the most immediately noticeable change will be that all
pvengine.exe options will revert to their default (i.e. anything that used
to be stored in PVENGINE.INI). This is due to the fact that these settings
are now stored in the registry. (This doesn't affect the editor, since
those settings were already stored in the registry).

More comprehensive release notes and links to the download are as always at

No automatic setting migration on first run? :(

I wonder if the POV team likes my idea of a slogan for the About window of
the famous raytracer..? See the second thread below this one...

I was really tempted to do it, but figured there aren't really a whole lot
of settings that folk are likely to customize ... that said, I might build
migration code into the installer once that's written.

(anyone here familiar with installshield? ;)

is this the product you're talking about?

http://www.macrovision.com/products/installation/installshield.htm

what kind of timeframe are you taking about here? I'm asking because I might
be willing to take this on. I'm a quick study! Are you willing to work with
someone on a learning curve?

yep ... we have a license for InstallShield 12 Professional.

sure: can't be worse than my learning curve ;] ... I've never used the
product. we have some special requirements for 3.7, including the need for
a 32 and 64-bit install and the ability to have a separate install process
that can be fired up from POVWIN if it detects it's running for the first
time in a particular user account: it needs to copy local files (such as
the user's local copy of scenes and includes, insert menu, and so forth).

please email me if you want to take this on.

thanks!

Hello Chris,

I'm familiar with installshield.

(Only IS X, platform Windows 32 bit, mixed InstallScript/MSI type of
install)

I haven't looked at IS 12 yet, but there shouldn't be much difference.

Maybe i can give some assistance if needed.

I tried to reply to the email I got from you this morning and it bounced
.... see the message header
--------

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

w10### [at] povrayorg

SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<w10### [at] povrayorg>:

host mail.povray.org [203.29.75.34]: 550 5.7.1 <w10### [at] povrayorg>...

So I'm goning to post my reply here.

It seems to me that the team would be better servered by someone who has an
Install Shield background so I'm inclined to defer to Zan's expertise.

See http://cbl.abuseat.org/lookup.cgi?ip=66.6.63.8&.submit=Lookup

Basically it means some spam was emanating from that IP in recent days.
