Anyone got any recommendations for any good Windows modellers
along the lines of Moray?

I know Moray is going to be free soon but was wondering what else
was out there that was any good.

At the top four of this list, ONLY Moray is an option!!

Breeze Designer has not been updated since the late 90's (I don't know why
it is so high on the list!!); as is POVLAB; and MagicLight is in early
stages of development.

There is also Bishop3D which is under development, in Beta testing. But it
will be shareware, price unknown.

Yes, good point, Stephen.

Concerning Moray, it should already be free:
<quote from Moray homepage, news in February>
We will be releasing a final build without any registration requirements and
nag screens in a few weeks.
<unquote>

<and a quote from the Registration page>
Since ownership of Moray has been transferred to the POV-Team, registration
is no longer required.
<unquote>

I don't know however, if this has been followed up :-)

I did email Lutz one of the programmers about that and he did
give me a Reg Key.

I'm not sure if posting it here is allowed..?

If so I will post.

That is a moot point. Under the terms and conditions you should not make the
Reg Key public. Not that I personally care now that it will be free. But it
is not up to me.

Wings3D and Blender both come in Windows versions, IIRC. Both are
released under the GPL.

Blender takes a lot of getting used to - you'll need a plugin to export
POV from Wings, though you can export to Wavefront OBJ from there and
convert with poseray (which is also free, IIRC).

Hi;
  GMAX is still available from a few sites. It's got buggy booleans and you
have to jump through hoops to convert to POVRAY but, if you can live with
that, it's a beautiful program with a great GUI.

I'm working on one for making characters that you can pose with POV-Ray
script (GUI posing will be coming later).

Right now it's in a semi-lame state, but you can find it here:
