I'm VERY new to povray, and I'm sorry, I'm sure this has been asked
many-o-time before.  I'm looking for:

1) custom povray ide
2) eclipse/netbeans povray plugin
3) an emacs lisp file.

I'm going to keep looking on my own (in case the people who know the answer
are annoyed at how often they've answered this :-).  I'll post back what my
own searches dig up too.

custom?

There are various editors with more or less elaborate POV-SDL support 
and some editors specifically designed for POV-Ray like:
