Folks,
I notice that many of our images/attachments on the wiki are getting
"deleted". It is possible that this is vandalism but it seems so widespread
that it looks like a disproportionate effort for someone to do this. Any
thoughts? Do we have a wiki bug?
Tom,
Can you zap a backup/snapshot of the environment?
Neil

From what I have seen it has been consistently 1 partial IP address,
which leads me to believe it is a vandal.

Hmm... apart from uploading new versions of my images/attachments to
geomorph and deleting old ones, I have not yet seen anything wrong there...
..which brings me to the question about using the User Preferences name one
can give: How do you implement that? I remember a post by Neil about it I
believe, but I cannot find it :-( ...because that would make things
clearer to who is doing what. I am still visible under my IP address.

Can you point me to a specific attachment that was deleted so I can
check it out. There is a restore function for deleted attachments.
Look at the deleted attachment on this page:
http://povray.tirnalong.com/ow.asp?p=MediaPage&a=attach
You can click the icon on the right that shows the curled arrow to do a
restore.
IIRC attachments can only be permanently deleted when I run the
deprecate script. I have not run that yet. Keep in mind that if you
uplad a file that has an extension other than
gif|jpg|png|bmp|jpeg|mpg|avi|pov
then it will have the extension ".safe" appended to the filename. So that:
"coolarchive.zip" becomes "coolarchive.zip.safe"

Tom,
I have restored most (all?) of the deleted images using the mechanism you
had described. I am VERY glad you have not yet executed the deprecated
script. We would have lost a BUNCH of images.
Here is one this very morning .... I have *NOT* yet restored the image:
http://www.wikipov.org/ow.asp?MorayCoordinateSystem
This is getting VERY bad ...

As far as I can see, not only does marking images for deletion not require a
login, but such edits do not even show up in the revision history.
This vandalism is probably being done by hand, but it wouldn't be hard to
write a script that would autodelete images throughout the site... and you
wouldn't even notice the changes in the revisions or recent changes page.
Scary.
I guess in a world of mass-murder, pillage and rape, one shouldn't be too
surprised, but the mind boggles as to what this vandal thinks he or she is
accomplishing by this...
