Hi guys

I have added four new images (90% povray) on my gallery:

http://home.intekom.com/rylan/

Click on raytracing, then Gallery C. One image by Kari Kivisalo, and one by
Fabien Mosen that was featured in the scene files forum.

I assume you have not obtained permission from the authors of these
images since i was not asked concerning the one image from me you have
displayed there either. This is not correct unless the images have been
explicitly designated as 'free to use'.

In case of my image i don't mind - it's just a sample scene for the
waves include file. But mentioning where it was obtained from would be
a good idea.

In case of the images made from POV-Ray sample scenes it would be
adequate to clearly write that they are sample scenes from the official
POV-Ray package. The 'abyss' and 'benchmark' scene should be shown in
correct aspect ratio of course.

There are also other images with the wrong aspect ratio. Also, the
glassware.jpg looks horrible; something was screwed up badly with that
one.

I agree, it doesn't do justice to the original at all.

Whoops - sorry. I seem to keep stepping on my own tie in here. I'll remove
them immediately.

Good intentions, wrong results. Much like my raytracing attempts!

Thanks for the correction, I apologize to all concerned.

How should anyone know any of this? As I've suggested several times before,
we ought to have a blanket policy statement that Creative Commons license
option xyz applies to all scene files shipped with Povray, CC license abc
is understood to be in effect for all things published to p.b.i., etc.

to me at least, it seems a simple matter of courtesy to ask permission
to use an image.

also as is displayed in quite a lot of places, its a private newsgroup

private implies its not yours, so ask. seems simple enough

By knowing your (and international) copyright law.

This would strongly restrict visitors in posting images/code. A lot of
people don't want their work to be used elsewhere without restrictions,
in cases of contract work made for others it would sometimes even be
impossible to show it there.

Apart from that the gallery in question would not be correct under the
Creative Commons license either - it requires credits to the Author
being given.
