Hi all,
I'm suffering from a problem when using the pov editor in WinXP - basically
there are intermittent periods where the computer locks up and cannot keep
up with what I'm typing - this has already been reported in povray.windows
under "Editor problem in WinXP?" although this was several months ago - has
anyone developed a workaround/solution?
Plus this seems to be independent of any background processes ie virus
checkers etc
Thanks
jim

I've used it on at least two different XP machines, and I haven't noticed
this problem. I've actually used it on perhaps 4 or 5 XP machines to a very
limited degree.
The only time I've noticed a problem is when my Outlook is receiving email
(which kills everything).
I know this doesn't necessarily help, but there must be something different
from my XP setup and yours. If you come up with some specific settings
you'd like to compare, I wouldn't mind doing that.

I recal I once had this proble, but afair after resart it was gone.
But anyway I can confirm, that this problem exists.
Btw, turining OFF all console output *dramaticly* improves waste of time
before/after render. This waste is only about 1 second, but i.e. one
animation was rendering in 300x200px at 20 fps with is almost real-time
with NO console output, and about 1 fps with default settings.
(Scene was ofcourse *very* simple it was just a test of movment before
starting real render, on Athlon 2000 GHz)

From: http://www.computing.co.uk/Features/1129818
"Intel says it has already produced a transistor with a 15nm gate running
at 2.6THz at 0.8v. The company has yet to show that it can integrate such
devices into a processor and mass produce it. But Marcyk said: "We have
shown that we can produce the technology for devices that will go into
production by 2009. That's very good news."
and
"The shine seemed to have been taken off Intel's announcement when AMD
demonstrated a conventional CMOS transistor with a 15nm gate clocking more
than 3THz."

The problem occurs regardless of whatever other processes are happening in
the background - infact the problem only arises after a render has been
started (and either completed or cancelled by the user). The first keystroke
after the render and there after every 32nd keystroke will cause pov to
"pause" for a few seconds.
thanks
