If you have an LCD display, what display_gamma do you use in your
povray.ini?
I'm using 1.4 but this produces an image which is too dark when viewed
on a crt. I found other threads here on this subject but no useful
answers.
With assumed_gamma 1 in a pov file, I'm unable to match renders on an
LCD box and crt box. "Another knot (48k)" posted in p.b.i was rendered
on LCD box and has bright colours.
I have an NEC LCD1760NX but the specs don't give its gamma.

I'm using display_gamma=assumed_gamma = 1.
Not perfect, but much better than the default...

Mine is Display_Gamma=2.2. Although, I had set it as 2.3 before based on how
I saw the test GIF on LCD. Whether incorrect or not, it seems to be okay
until I forget to set assumed_gamma 1.0 in the scene file.

Hmm.. thats quite a range for 2 responses.
I believe LCDs are linear so should have a gamma of 1 but this doesn't
seem to work for me :-/

Having never completely understood gamma on my CRT, I'm certainly not going
to pretend to understand it on an LCD, except to say that I don't think
they're even remotely the same.
I've finally settled on display_gamma = 1, assumed_gamma = 1 for my CRT,
but on my girlfriends LCD it is always much brighter. The same file on her
LCD needs assumed_gamma 1.275-1.325 to look the same.

If you don't share source or images, gamma doesn't matter. As you have
found, it matters when you want to share and have others see what
_you_ see.
