Hi,
I would like to know how to model a rope?
I have tried various combinations of interwined coils, but
the result is not realistic enough. Also, I would like to be
able to make the rope follow any path (e.g. a spline). So
basically, I need to figure out what an elementary part of
a rope could be modelled as, and then I can use a macro
to actually duplicate this elementary part along the path.
(much like one creates a hanging chain out of small links)
Cheers.
Maxime.

hey!
you may want to try the new sphere_sweep feature.

I was going to point you over to Chris Colefax's web pages but I get a Not
Found for it. Just in case it works later or for you instead:

I have no problem accessing the site in question.

The disadvantage of the methods mentioned so far is that you will not be
able to easily map your rope texture onto the strands. I would suggest
building three mesh strands twisted together.

Same here... now. Thanks for checking, almost broke a sweat thinking Chris's
site had gone under.

Hi Shay,
OK, I understand.
As far as I'm concerned, my rope only has got one
texture applied to all threads, which is fine.
However, I couldn't find a way to make the rope
follow exactly a given path. There seems to be lacking
the bezier_spline type for a spline, although this
is available for a lathe object. Am I missing something?
In that case, how can I impose some tangents in some
predefined points to the the curve I want the rope
to follow.
