So apparently one has to make a new splash screen before releasing a patch.
That's cool. But the sample splash screen says "remember to include the
POV-Team's copyright notices."

...What exactly would those copyright notices be? Should I just copy what's
on the sample splash screen? I didn't find any mention of this in the readme
or in povlegal, so I'm not sure what exactly needs to go on the splash
screen.

Well the Windows splash graphic is actually much less informative than the
stuff in the message stream text. I think as long as it says POV-Ray is
copyrighted it should be okay, but I'm not really the one to be saying that
since it's possible the various platform sources are also meant to show who
did them originally. If using the Windows source I'd ask Chris Cason about
it, if Mac then Thorsten, etc.
I just happened to think of something... I don't remember if the About POV
dialog box (Alt+B, if Windows anyway) also show the first time it's
installed. I'd think you couldn't go wrong to use everything on there.
Didn't MegaPOV just use a flaming letter M and say POV-Ray is copyrighted
along with the URL www.povray.org? I already forgot that too.
