This release candidate expires on July 9, 2002! By this time there will
either be a new release candidate available here or the final version of
POV- Ray 3.5 will be available. You should expect that there will be
regular updates to the release candidates, so check this page regularly.

well... and what ? today my PovRay expired - and ther is now new version :(
I'm using PovRay in commercial application (its role is minor - just making
some icons, grahics etc - but I still do need it to work !)
This is first time that Pov accualy dissapointed me :/ I gues I will NOT
finish work for tomorow morning :<

how can I work-around this expiration ?

btw. what for is this strange idea with expirations dates ?

but IMHO this proves that expirations not only are unnesary, but that they
are alsow very primitve written (my luck ;)

They are necessary and they work exactly as designed.

The point with the expirations are not to by all means exclude the user
from using the beta, but rather to make it absolutely clear that the
software is only beta. By explicitly setting back the clock the user
must have acknowledged this. That way it is avoided that some users who
don't realize that they're using beta software report bugs that have in
fact been fixed long ago.

I simply let it run a big render that takes some days or maybe even weeks.
It will continue rendering until 2005 if it's needed as long as I don't
shutdown the funky goat.

You understand the concept of "beta", "beta-testing" and "beta-tester",
don't you?
The version you have is not a final official release and thus you should not
expect anything about it.

Perhaps you should be using POV-Ray 3.1 (and not a BETA version) for your
necessary work, eh?

1. First of all don't use beta versions for commercial works.
   Nobody will guarantee effect.
2. It works the same since more than year.
3. Haven't you readed informations displayed during installation ?
4. Since you are using it commercial I assume You readed in POVLEGAL:
"As the program is free, the entire risk as to the quality and performance
of the Software is borne by you, and it is your responsibility to ensure
that it does what you intend it to do prior to using it for any purpose
   other than testing it."
5. Check if this feature is known, intentional and already
   discussed so many times: http://news.povray.org/search/?s=expir
6. Turn your clock back, start pov and then turn your clock forward
or download povray 3.1 since it is official and supported release.

You should read changes log if you are using pov for comercial purposes. You
can read there that similiar feature was introduced in latest release. *)
Note: TheBat is commercial product with own price while POV-Ray is only as
good as volunteers.

*) Unfortunatelly hard to say how it works since www.povray.org is currently
not accesible - does this mean webpage is updated for official release?.
