What causes this? I just downloaded the thing for a second time today, and
it did it again. I'm talking about RC-1, of course.

Cheers!

If you use IE, Netscape or something similar, but not a download-manager
software, chances are the transfer broke before finishing .. so you don't
have the whole file... Have you checked this?

Otherwise I don't know... I think there are normally some error checking on
the Internet, to prevent false data.

if you're downloading via FTP, make sure you're downloading in binary
mode. I've made this mistake many times.

I'm on Roadrunner cable service, using IE5, direct clicking the link and it
comes over in a few seconds. The filesize looks right, 8,138,555 bytes. The
error occurs on C:/ ...../bin/povcmax2.dll and gives "corrupt file" error. I
have made three different downloads, at three different times to no avail.
I always use the same links and download method, and when downloading the
program, it never works on the first try, and usually works on the second or
third. There has got to be a simple explanation for this.

Cheers!

A suggested work-around would be to download the VC compile, which is just the
.exe and therefore considerably smaller.

Are you de-installing the previous version? Dunno if this would make any
difference, but it's what I always do (obviously DON'T do this if you go for the
VC compile).

One word: diskcache. Clear it or IE uses the file in the cache and if it
was broken on the first try it won't get any better..

If you want to check your download, the MD5 checksum of my (intact)
version:

I completely uninstall before downloading the new one.

It goes through the complete download sequence- and if a cache file were the
case, I would never get a good working copy. In previous attempts, I get a
working copy after a download or two. Still, I will look at that.

I downloaded MD5, checked the file, and the checksum is completely
different. I'll try another download.

Cheers!
