http://10best.raytrace.com/short/shorttable.html
It has the results and scene files.
There will be a Round Two. Trying to decide if it should be something
done by hand by myself again.

Shouldn't the mini thumbnails be links to the pictures?

I agree with warp thumbnails could be linked with original images.
Optionaly shortview page could be linked somehow.
> It has the results and scene files.
Congratulations for the winners and participants.
I feel special case of winer when I add all points of my entries ;-)
I have also some unfinished/failed entries and I wonder what to do with them.
I have one question - anybody adjested brightnest of
http://10best.raytrace.com/short/ks6_800.JPG ?
Accidently I prepared this image in night and forgot about light background in
daylight contrast issue :-( That's my fault but I wonder if anybody tried to see
that.
> There will be a Round Two.
As I mentioned earlier I think this contest was very important. I have found
some bugs in 3.5 developing my entries so it was good from product view. I have
learned many things about some features so it was good from my view. It showed
power of scripts so it was good from 'advertising' view. It presented some
technics/algorithms in short form so it was good from community view. I think
that 500 chars is best limit for interesting scene. Lower amount of characters
could be just sig (I know there are short entries in contest). My proposition is
add one-word subject similiar to IRTC. It can be anything: green, car, cold,
water, star etc. In general I'm pesimist - after a few rounds number of
participants will be low.

Specially if we add a topic. I vote for no topic.
In the IRTC a topic is good because you are completely free to do whatever
you want. However, in this contest you have a strong limitation: File size.
This greatly limits what you can do concerning a certain topic. This will
probably discourage most people (they might have really good ideas for
a 500-bytes scene, but they don't fit the topic so they just can't
participate).
So please: No topic.

I really wonder who voted for a completely black image when there were
lots of great images there. No-one can seriously consider a black image
better than most of the other images.
As I already complained in another thread, there were images which were
infinitely better than a black image which got no votes at all. I would
say this is outrageous.
But what can we do? Humans are humans, and voters are voters. If they
vote, they vote. Who are we to judge them?

Well, I don't really understand why my landscape picture got by far the
most points (it got 83 points while the second best got only 48).
Seriously, it's not *that* good. Even though it might be visually pleasing,
it doesn't show too much technical skill. A picture which I personally
consider a lot better, both visually and technically, is for example ks2;
it looks really nice, and the fractal is very well done, and really fits
the image. Still this image got only 25 points. I don't really understand why.
Well, we can never completely understand human mind... :)

Well, next round, I'd add the following rule:
NO use of "blank scenes", i.e., scenes without use of povray scene language.
In other words,
background {rgb 0} //XYZ
is a valid entry; whereas
//XYZ
is not.
As far as the nut who actually VOTED for it, well, have **you** been to see
some of the crap at MOMA in NY City?

IMHO the rules should say that the scene must not issue any warnings.

Why? This would invalidate a lot of perfectly acceptable shortcuts. Suppose I
make an image that works by casting shadows, do I have to have a pigment for
each shape even though they are never seen?

Warp goes on these POV-Ray purist kicks once in a while. He is mostly
harmless but bears considerable watching. Of course it is a ridiculous
requirement. Warnings do not effect the resulting image and will not be
prohibited.

On of my failed entriens was broken even with max_gradient 666 :
Warning: The maximum gradient found was 35382651221311881000000000000.000, but
max_gradient of the isosurface was set to 666.000. The isosurface may contain
holes! Adjust max_gradient to get a proper rendering of the isosurface.
Of course I started this with evaluate but then it took 480 hours to render. It
is my best entry. I wonder should I wait with it for next round or it could be
not fair to use old script ?

lol ...
I've no probs with POV-purism ...
But IMHO this includes the use of the shortcuts, POV-Ray offers ...
So if we know, what we do with our tools, we can thankfully leave the warnings
aside, as they are probably intended ? ...

I think that no-warning strategy is nice but should be used rather in useful
tools, inlude files, macros distributed to others as tutorials, packages etc.
Shortest code or sig is made to confuse so no need to remove it but also no need
to not try to remove it. Just not important thing.

I voted mostly for landscapes because they were visually pleasing - we
weren't looking at code, or difficulty or size.
But I just downloaded 3.5 yesterday - I have a need for some of the
features. And the code in this contest will be really helpful in
getting a handle on certain things - being small it is unencumbered with
extraneous detail.
So I'm looking forward to more contests, even though I'm out of ideas
currently. :-(
I'm a little surprised that people didn't comment their code in the text
file, though. I guess I went overboard commenting nearly every line.

Are they perfectly acceptable if they issue a warning?-)
Of course my other sig issues a warning, but that's a bug in POV-Ray
(it issues the warning even though there's no reason for it).
Well, warnings might be acceptable, but I personally don't consider it
of good style.
Or do you think it's ok to leave semicolons out because it still parses
ok even though POV-Ray issues a huge amount of warnings (at least if it
has been left out inside a big loop)?

Warning is not a part of language.
Btw: semicolons are required now so you can't remove it.

I said I wouldn't "win," but I didn't kick myself out when I won 2nd place
in two categories. Hope no one minded.
Interestingly, when things got slow one week, I invited my friends to vote
(it's blind, and I *said* it's "open to the public"). It's interesting that
the week that non-raytracing, NY/NJ residents were voting (about 5), my c06
entry got LOTS of votes. During a week that I beat the bushes at
povray.general a second time, about 5 raytracers voted, giving c06 NO
votes.
