For some reason the Pov Ray Gods have decided its okay to expire the current
beta without putting up a new one, perhaps they enjoy having us get hooked
on its features than taking them away <grin>. But here is a way around it.
Just set your clock back to Jan 14th, start the program, and reset the clock
to today's date. As long as you don't quit the program that will work.
Hopefully these so called programming mavens will see the harm they are
doing and reset the beta's timer so it will expire when they finally have
something suitable to post.

Did you actually check if a new beta was available before posting...?
Even hours before your post betas for all three supported platforms were
available!

This gives a good idea: Make povray beta check the date regularly when
running. For example before each render. :P

He didn't, but at least 1000 other people did (that's approximately how many
povwin35-beta-10 copies were downloaded in the 24 hours since I put the file
up - the first one being at 14 Jan 21:29 hrs US eastern standard time).
I'm sure glad that each one of those folks didn't post here asking about it
before downloading ! ;)

Thanks guys for the support.
BTW I checked10 times in the last two days for th new beta, read the
newsgroups for some comment about where it was, posted a similar message two
days ago and got no reponse. So it wasn't for lack of trying that I put up
this message.

Two days ago beta 9 was valid and working :-)

Have your readed some threads about how previous betas appeared ? In particular
comments from team about announcing and working way? Have you readed in
beta-test group where I anounced in december that beta 9 will expire before
expiration time?

You started this thread day after beta release :-)

Are you going to officially announce that beta 10 is up?
I wanna be one of the "good ones", not donwloading before the announcement,
because maybe you are going to change something lastminunte after realising a
"crashing bug". After someone (inofficially) announced beta 8, you told us
that it is on you to annouce.
(no harm inteded! just asking)

One sec, please...
A lot of anxiety going on lately; frayed nerves perhaps after such a long,
grueling beta test period. It's a lot like watching wolf packs hunting for
the next meal in the middle of winter on PBS. ;-}
I don't think people should be jumping all over poor Mitchell like that
anyhow. He hasn't been beta testing the past year like so many others have
been doing. And hasn't even been here in the newsgroups much. Not everyone
can lurk for months without speaking up.
Okay, now you can flame me at will.
Yep, I see there hasn't been a official announcement made of #10, neither
here at general nor at beta-test.
Guess I look too briefly at http://www.povray.org/binaries/windows/beta.html
when DL from there, I hadn't realized it states "By this time there will
either be a new beta version available here or the final version of POV-Ray
3.5 will be available." after the Feb. 10th 2002 date. Can anybody tell me
if that has always been said?
