Can anyone point me to resources that explain or enable one to raytrace
cloth/curtains?

You don't specify what raytracer you want to use. Ken will
help you with locating the cloths tuff for POV in a few
minutes form now.

Also do you need animated cloth/curtains or stills? If
stills just use sPatch or Hamapatch.

Ken?

OK.

Stills. I am doing some home remodeling and am using POV-Ray to preview the
tile/wall treatments, etc. I'd like to look at curtains, too.

THanks.

For a nice velvet material (well HE calls it fur, but what does he know, he only
wrote the code), try Rune's website:
http://rsj.mobilixnet.dk/3d/goodies/goodies.html

For modelling curtains etc. you can either use height-fields, bicubic-patches
or, if you use the 3.5 beta or megapov, isosurfaces.

For patches, you need a modeller. Popular modellers are spatch
http://www.geocities.com/getspatch/index.html
and hamapatch
http://www.geocities.com/hamapatch/program/index.html
(hama is a jap. program, but includes a eng. install iirc - the above page is
eng. with a good set of hama links).

Personally, I would recommend isosurfaces for simple surfaces such as curtains
or cushions, but patches for more complex shapes such as shaped cushions etc.

The advantage of isosurfaces is that you can deform the surface with noise (aka
wrinkled material) as well as defining the folds etc.

Basically, if you like mucking about with math, then use isos, otherwise, if you
prefer modelling with a mouse go with hama or spatch (IMHO)

No he won't, he's off on holiday in Oregon, seeing his family.

Bye for now,

Try clothray. It's a patch of Povray 3.1 by Christophe Bouffartigue (based
on Megapov) but you can very well create the cloth with it and then use it
in Povray 3.5. The cloth object is uv-mapped too.

Download here:

About making a curtain, see the end of this page (how to create
constraints):

There is a windows version for cygwin still available under

http://www.schunter.etc.tu-bs.de/~chris/cloth/index.html

Some Doku is included in the package IIRC.

Thanks. What is UV Mapping? Is this in a FAQ somewhere?
