I would like to apologize to everyone who felt "spammed" by my
announcement. I should have posted to povray.off-topic and read the AUP
first. I felt that there would be POV-Ray users who would be interested
in the announcement but didn't realize that the discussion was
restricted to POV-Ray and 3D utilities. I will refrain from making any
more announcements here unless there is a clear tie to POV-Ray.

Since it seems like it was mostly me who was offended, you should know
that I am offended by -everything-... but I take every apology offered.

Don't worry about it, I think most of the people here are at least
interested in knowing about it.

Was it spam? I thought spam had to have some kind of mass-mailing slant?

Well, this is kind of like mass-mailing; how many hundred people read these
newsgroups?

I think that spam is every unwanted or off-topic advertisement sent to many
people, usually by mail.
The keyword here is "unwanted", I think.

Usually spam is not -illegal- or a TOS-able offense unless there is some
sort of crossposting or mass emailing that goes along with it, but to me,
putting an ad, in a post that has no on-topic substance, in a NG that has
little or nothing to do with the product, or which group is not a "for sale"
group, is Spam.
Again, not like I really was bothered by the one post, but I just wonder
how many other people have products that they would like to advertise on
this group and how quickly that could degenerate if there isn't some
objection to each and every minor violation.
