Hi all,
Well I have finally updated my website and mainly the POV-Ray section. I've
added links to some code that I use in my scenes (i.e Isosurface Water and
Media Clouds) and am hoping to get some code to some of the models I am
curently working on up soon (when I finish the pics that they are in). If
you want to see it go to http://perso.libertysurf.co.uk/kevin.ellis under
The 'My Interests' Section.
Please look around and tell me what is missing, one thing that is missing is
a link to http://www.povray.co.uk which I just realised and will add
tomorrow-ish.
So what do you think?
Kev

In Nescape most of the text appears as black on dark blue rendering it
virtually impossible to read.

None of the images load in Netscape.
I will also add a very AOLian "Me too" to Ken's comment.

Let me rephrase that: "None of the demo-scenes from (mega)POV(ray) load
in Netscape". After a looksie at the source, I think it's due to the
fact that the path is using backslashes '\' rather than forward slashes
'/'.

Indeed. Turning on javascript didn't help either. URLs like this:
http://perso.libertysurf.co.uk/kevin.ellis/interest\pov\mpov7_1.jpg
are not exactly standard :) (in the pov page)

Oops sorry.
Well I fixed the back-slashes to forward-slashes, which should help with the
images. I think the black text problem is my fault and caused by me
forgetting to put the body standard stuff in after I had changed to Style
Sheets, does Netscape not support Style sheets?
Oh well looks like I had better do some editing.
Sorry again, but I have added the link to povray.co.uk, so I'm not all bad,
honest :)

It's still black text on blue background here in Netscape, even with style
sheets enabled.

I don't know much about style sheets, but i suppose you use some IE
specific and/or CSS 2.0 features. Tried it in IE 3 :-) and the color was
better while the font size was extremely small.
maybe http://www.w3.org/Style/ can help.

After all the less than positive critiques I want to tell you that it
just looks great in IE5! Nice coloring, nicely readable texts and the
images stand out fine. It's clearly made and checked for and in IE,
then, judging the other comments. Off-hand I have no idea what could be
wrong, but someone else is bound to help you out, I hope :-)

Thanks, I think it mainly has to do with the base tag which doesn't seem to
work in Netscape, I just installed v6 and the links don't work right it
keeps looking in the current directory instead of the base directory, silly
netscape

Had a look with Amaya, colours are ok, fonts are too small. In the
stylesheet I changed the font-size for the body to 1.25em; and all
looked ok, also in IE5.
Also the column width isnt right in Amaya, didn't look into that any
further.

Netscape 4.x supports stylesheets if JavaScript is enabled, but in this case
"supports" is a fairly flexible term! I think the main problem is that
Netscape doesn't give child elements of the document body the body's font
styles. That means when you use paragraphs, quotes, table cells, etc.
(without specifying styles for these) POV-Ray uses the default style (i.e.
black serif font), rather than inherited styles.
The solution is to explicitly specify the basic font styles for all the
elements that will use them, e.g.:
body, p, td, blockquote {
font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: 0.25em;
color: #eeeeee;
}
Anything specific to the body or table cells, etc., can then go in their own
styles.

What!?! But that's a terrible bug!
BTW IMHO it would be better to use relative sizes rather than fixed sizes
for fonts.
Followups to o.t.

Thanks for the comments.
OK, I've made quite a few changes and it should now work in Netscape,
although I've only checked it in v6. It should even be readable (though
awful looking) with style sheets turned off. Could someone check to see if
it loks ok now, cheers

Looks good now (Netscape 4.7).

Works fine for me in Netscape and I have no idea what my settings are, all
defaults presumably. You have a real nice line of images going there. I like
the direction. There seems to be a very studied use of pictorial elements,
ever more refined technique, and an evolving vision that that does not rely on
a particular genre.

Thanks, I think my skills are improving faster than before but I'm still a
long way off the true masters i.e. Gilles, Mick, H E Day, but hopefully one
day I can catch up, although I'm probably just kidding myself :)
If only I could work out how to use textures effectively.

I really like the design - nice and simple! :)
(I'm using IE.)
The images are great too. I especially like "door to enlightenment".
