Well... after about a year I'm finally getting settled back down enough
to have time again for POV-Ray. (Oh, and a new email address, since
geocities servers are pretty much dead now)
My situation has changed a little in the past year. Finally settled into
our house. Baby Jasmine is almost 2 now and in great health (was born 8
weeks premature).
...And among other things, I'm now the owner of not one, but two Macs. :-D
They're used, but still good macs.
Soo.... I've dusted off my old R-Cast stuff and am getting it up to
speed. What with a Linux box and two Macs, I can actually give it some
good exersize and have simple renderfarming up.
Is there still interest for such things?

Yes there is. See www.imp.org, you can immediately start rendering if you
like! We have a nice project going on with rings and media. (see
http://24.132.254.147/872.jpg for an example frame).
The client-side stuff of the farm is completely written in perl so you'll
have no problems running. Except for the renderer because that is POV-Ray
heheheheh. I don't know about the macs, but if they're osx you'll be able to
run perl also. Windows machines can run the compiled version of the render
client.
Tom Galvin (www.imp.org) will post an official thing about this project soon
I think.
Regards,
Apache

Well... there's a little more to it than that. Perl can be a bit of a
problem on some systems. And the farm host setup might be appropriate to
some situations more than others.
BTW, I've been quite aware of the IMP project. :-)

Could you elaborate on this? I don't understand what you mean by farm host
setup.
Tom
P.S. Good to see you back.

A quick thumbnail might be client-server versus ad-hoc peer-to-peer

What's this? It's almost as though the fates were tempting me to...
Bad fates. Baaad... Naughty fates...

I thought about your idea a good bit. It would not be that difficult to
enable peer to peer in the impfarm, though I do not see the need/advantage
for our project at this time. However, it might be beneficial to work out
a standard XML dataset for handing out Pov-Ray renders.
