RedHat Linux (/etc/redhat-release reads 5.0 but it's really with latest
stuff, glibc-2.3.2 etc :) ), kernel 2.4.20aa1, used Linux since 1994.
Heavily patched Povray 3.5.

not exactly but...

well... DJGPP 2.03 under DOS and MinGW 2.0.0-3 in console box under Windows
since they are fastest free command line solutions for WinDOS, They are rather
environment extensions/shells than Linux/Unix but use mostly the same tools and
accepts makefiles and scripts dedicated for Unix/Linux.

do not remember... perhaps started about 4-5 years ago

always newest possible + MegaPOV

currently: Mandrake 9.1 & POV-Ray 3.5.

Started with slackware, from 3.5 i think, up to 8.0, get fed up with kernel
compilation and switch to Mandrake. Using povray on linux since version 3.0,
more or less

I never used a non-unix version.
I started with 3.0 or 3.1, can't remember exactly. That was in 2000 or 2001.
I now use 3.5 on several linux'es: an old SUSE, an old RedHat and a
recent Debian. The original 3.0 or 3.1 was included with the old SUSE, but
since then I always installed and sometimes compiled by hand. Parallel to
the official 3.5 I use a patched 3.5 on one machine (own unworthy patch).

Thanks for making this survey !

	Installing/using:

* Always compiled/installed from source only, as non-root user.
* Starting from version 3.0 as of mid 1996, when I first got full access to
   the internet  :-)

	POV versions currently in use:

* 3.1g and various patches (e.g. MegaPOV 0.7)
* 3.5c

	Architectures:

* Linux (many kernels/distros) since 1998
* SGI (IRIX 5.x and 6.x) since 1996
* DEC/Compaq Alpha (Digital UNIX only) from 1996 to 2001
* Once I managed to compile (but not use !) POV on an old SUN and on one
   Evans & Sutherland relic  :-)

Debian 3.0r1, kernel 2.4.20, POV-Ray 3.5 (built from source), 4-5
years (since Slackware 3.0 I think)

P.S. We might want to get in touch with the Debian POV-Ray package
supporters, as a) they put it in the non-free category, and b) IIRC
they offer the documentation separately.

official benchmark ?
