Updated version of POV-Tree is available here:
http://propro.ru/go/Wshop/tools/files/povtree1.0b.zip

Changes:
- increased font size
- fixed the problem with tips. Now clicking on 'Tip' icon
which is next to each parameter you can read short
  description of that parameter.
- fixed the problem with 'About' window
- fixed the problem with title icon image

To do list for final version:
- avoid gaps between elements (mesh export)
- add interactive mesh editor to 'Preview' window. So that
it would be possible to remove/move/rotate/scale tree
  elements in 'Preview' window.

Gena.

Hi Gena, is it possible that you could explain installing POV-Tree for
me, (and possibly others)?

I downloaded the Java runtime program, and I downloaded your above
link. I've tried clicking and double-clicking on the .jar file and all
I get is a list *within* PowerArchiver of .class files. I tried a
short-cut to the .jar file itself from my desktop, and I tried using
the console(? - run?) too - but all to no avail... POV-Tree won't
install/open.

  I'm running win98.

I think I'm missing something, somewhere.. Is this possibly an
'association' thing?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I solved this by right-clicking and select "open with..." Then selected java
runtime (JRE). I'm on a win2k box, and suddenly I forgot how to do it in
win98.. you may have to change the file association, IIRC it's in "tools -
folder options - file types".

Good luck!

When you installed JRE on your machine files with extension
'jar' should be associated to 'java' intepreter which in turn
should be in your 'PATH' env. variable.

I think either smth. was wrong during installation (BTW I also
use win98) and assosciation doesn't work or 'java' is not in your
'PATH'.

Try this:
- start DOS window
- type 'java'
If you can start Java interpreter this way it means it should be in
your path and the reason of that problem is in association. For that
try to go to POV-Tree directory and start it:
java -jar povtree.jar

If that works smth. is definetly wrong with association. Try to
add that association manually. Again that association should be
done during JRE installation (if it was successful).

Hope this helps.
Let me know if it still doesn't work.

Gena.

I couldn't get povtree to work when it was on the desktop (ie \documents and
settings\...\povtree1.0b) but when I moved it to my povray folder
\povray\povtree ) and started it with java -jar povtree.jar it worked
fine.. Perhaps it doesn't like the spaces or dots?
I'm unable to start it by association the file to java.exe though..
My java came with Opera, and it runs povtree fine (if you manage to start it
;)

Yay! Thanks guys! Got it up and running now, and very nice it is too.

My fault. PowerArchiver was asking me to associate it with .zip files
and I was hitting 'yes' instead of 'no'. The reason being was that the
icon for the .jar file was showing me a WordPad icon which I haven't
seen before to open a program like this, and thought it was wrong!
Doh!

  Hey! I'm trying! ;)

  Thanks again.

...or I should say a Rich Text Document icon.
