Blah.  Windows XP should be smart enough to protect its most vital
files from being corrupted.  (See: hal.dll)

Well, I'm on a brand-spankin' new version of my computer, some
things are running a little better...now have additional 40 GB
to play around in.  Had to buy a separate HD for emergency
backup.  *sigh*.  Still need to reinstall POV/Moray.
