I just wanted to ask if there's a very useful
and detailed ISO-Surface-Tutorial for
POV-Ray 3.5 (not MegaPOV!) available
somewhere.

I know that I could look at MegaPOV
tutorials and beforehand learn to know
the discrepancies between POV-Ray 3.5
and MegaPOV SDL by heart, but I'd prefer
3.5 tutorials...

The best and only one for 3.5 I know of is:

There is a short one right in the Povray 3.5 docs (section 3.6.3)

And once again, isosurfaces have nothing to do with the ISO
(http://www.iso.org/) so there is no reason for writing it this way.

Ha, I know that the ISO is not an isosurface,
but perhaps someone can model it with
one?

Just kidding. But I'm not sure if such nit-picking
is really useful. At least sometimes I only get
the impression that someone wants to show
off that he has some more background knowledge.

Not that I'm directing this to you personally,
I meant that just in general. In this case, I
think I can agree that writing Iso-Tutorial
instead of ISO-Tutorial is better. Its not
like Isosurface could be written as
I.S.O. (hm... Isosurface Solution Obvious? Nah...)

I have no intention to show off or anything like that, but knowing about
the origin and the meaning of the 'iso-' syllable is not a bad thing,
especially since it helps understanding the nature of the object (iso ->
equal -> equipotential surface).

You're right. But I just thought to mention
it for others around the newsgroups. Sometimes
it gives me a headache how easily people
begin to throw "sort of insults" at each
other.

I just hate it when people start to mutter
sarcastically about how other do things and
what kind of experience they have. I liked to
have the impression that everyone's sitting
at the computer, smiling while sending their
posts. Nowadays, I sometimes think that
there's an evil grin lurking.

But, as already said, on this matter I agree
with you. So, I hope we're still pals? ;-)

(In case this looks like an overreaction: I like
to be REALLY sure of some things, especially
misunderstandings...)

Well, why mention in *this* thread that you don't like people throwing "sort
of insults" at each other when there's none of those in *this* thread? It
just seems a little irrellevant to me.

Anyway, it's good that there's no problem! ;)

He, he. I almost skipped this thread because I thought it was about the
International Standards Organization.

Not that I know anything about Isosurfaces....

Well, it's much a matter of where you go on the net. There are many rude and
immature people at many places. That disturbs me too so I stay away from
them. I consider Povray's newsserver to be one of the most friendly places.
And btw, sometimes it's a matter of misunderstanding when we feel other
people act a little rude, because we only have the text they've written, not
their voice or face.

Smiles,
Hugo
