Same scene. Same settings. Radiosity, media, the whole shebang.
3.1 took 00:04:23:51
3.5 took 00:18:56:52
Shouldn't 3.5 be at least as fast, if not faster than, 3.1?

3.1 radiosity should not be compared to 3.5 radiosity since both are
completely different.

A good start is to put just an empty radiosity block in global settings.
That is:
global_settings
{
radiosity { }
}
If the result doesn't look good, you could then try increasing count (for
example to 100) and/or decreasing pretrace_end (to .02 for example).
If it still doesn't help, then you'll have to start tweaking with other
parameters as well...
