Just had a thought...wouldn't it be neat if there were some kind of
P2P client a la Morpheus, only just for POV renders? I.e. you
connect to the network to farm out the rendering to a few thousand
other computers, it finishes much faster, plus your computer acts
as a render node and helps renders other people's stuff...?

Am I just being silly?

Hmm that's just for one specific task tho; I was thinking of a more
general 'whatever-scene-you're-working-on' p2p render farming.

P2P rendering would be especially helpful to me now, 'cuz I been
working on a rendering (24% done after 1 day) and my computer
locks up needing reboot...depending on how the p2p client worked,
I'd be able to get a copy of my rendering from some other computer
who was still working on it and continue on my computer.

I need a faster computer.

24% in a day isn't too bad. My current scene is currently rendering in
800*600
at about 1 line every 5 hours.

You should still be able to continue your render despite the crash. Try
adding
+C to the command line.

Rendering time is a question of personal standards (we are not talking
about movie production here).
But you definitely need a more reliable computer or OS.
