Hello! The 10best.raytrace.com project is just about ready to open its
doors for business. We have developed a system whereby you will be able
to upload your entries much like those of the IRTC. We would like to
test out the system before we make a formal announcement. I am
requesting that folks try to upload some images to our server at:

http://10best.raytrace.com/cgi-bin/10best.cgi

Please remember that this is BETA testing. After we are confident that
the system works flawlessly, we will DELTE ALL THE ENTRIES and reopen
the doors for formal submissions. Since we will delete the entries,
please do not post this web page "to the public", as this may cause
frustration and the loss of great art from folks who do not understand
that this is just a test. (We have had help from a few folks who had
turned in their email addresses to the survey at the bottom of the page,
but we want to try it out on a larger audience after installing a
bugfix.

If you have forgotten was 10best.raytrace.com was about, see:

http://10best.raytrace.com/10best.html

Thanks.

Ah, finally!

I hope this does not get too fast now, i would like to polish up my draft
for the cover image contest (which i started more than half a year ago)
and won't have time for that in the next weeks.

Concerning the entry form:

- experience level

i think i already mentioned these categories seem rather bad chosen to me,
nothing really fits. (at least for me :-))

I'm not sure what the purpose is, but I would either make more categories
or simply 'beginner'-'medium'-'advanced'

- nickname

I suppose this is just an identifier for the database, probably not a good
idea to enter 'chris' here...

I had about forgotten this existed.
I noticed a common grammatical error in the Experience page.

Honoree: Someone who has one [won] an Honorable Mention or better

I'm not much of a contestant but I did get a Weekly Pick at AOL long ago,
that count? I am a long-term Dabbler though, not sure Honoree sounds like
me.

The Copyright page might be a bit confusing where it says in part 1 that
nothing will be sold, yet then in part 2 it is opposite.
I get the idea but not sure everyone would.

And later it says submissions will be available to "sponsors":

"...permits sponsors that have been authorized by us to use your images to
demonstrate their products and services ; however, sponsors are not
permitted to sell your images."

Hopefully that won't deter too many people from submitting stuff,
considering that's like letting others profit from your work. Again, I get
the idea but not everyone would probably.
Maybe at least making it more prominent that this is all a benefit for the
POVing community could be more convincing.
Nevermind, didn't realize the banner says that right on there, and I looked
at the home page again.

Wow, that POVRay Hut club at Yahoo! is stark. I've been to the POV-Ray
group at Yahoo! [ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pov_ray ] many times in the
past and lately it has slowed there too.

I agree. There's lots of the really skilled POV-Ray artists who have never
even participated in the IRTC and who will thus have to settle for
"Dabbler".

One way would be to use categories like art type / realism type / math type
/ science type / architecture type / path writer type / etc., but that will
collide partly with the styles/themes, and besides, some people might be in
more than one category.

For it really to make sense you'd have to use a linear scale (so you can
only be in one category), so I agree that 'beginner'-'medium'-'advanced' is
good.

BTW, I notice the site is in the POV-Ray NewRing and the POV-Ray Ring Japan,
but why not be included in the original POV-Ray Webring too (which is also
far bigger)? Unless of course you refuse because it's run by Yahoo!...

Let's see - no I never deleted you from the webring. I did however suspend
you from it after having sent several critical mails to you without getting
any answers. Maybe it would be about time to update the specified e-mail
address?

As implied, you're still a member, though inactive, and I can activate the
site as soon as you've fixed the navigation bar (and I'd appreciate if you
could update your personal settings too).

See my sig. for a link that leads to more information.

I'm more than half joking. The povray rings were all defunct with nowhere to
complain for months at a time. I was reluctant to fill out more paperwork.
Will try to get the final version of the upload page on your ring...

THANKS for all your help. Please don't upload any more test images. We
might be ready to delete the files and open doors within the week.
