Well, so far that makes you the only one even close to me
geograpically...Of course it is all relative since it would probably
take a couple/three hours to get to VB from Charlottesville, which is
much further than Ken and Jon for instance...Wonder what it is about
Michigan that seems to attract the PoVers... I thought Virginia was for
Povers... then again, maybe I got the slogan mixed up somewhere.

I'm in Portland, Oregon. I've noticed the phrase "POV Snob" in this thread... I don't
consider myself a snob, I just like the challenge of doing everything in native POV
Code. I like the challenge so much that when I flew to southern California this past
weeked I worked out the pattern of the airline seat in front of me in POV-Ray.
My work with POVRay is not the best, but I think I can explain things fairly well.
My home page is usually at http://www.spiritone.com/~english and should be back up
soon.
I started to apply for a new job as a web designer, and ym personal homepage started
parsing in very strange ways so I took it down for yet another redesign.

Yeah, but at least your *first* name is easy for 'em. My name is sheer
hell.
Most foreigners come up with the ever so funny shitse, because they can't
get the hang of pronouncing a word unless it's in their native tongue...
Correct sound of my name would be something in the lines of 'Seetser'
(silent 'R', like in 'er...').

Im living in Göteborg, Sweden (for those of you who didn't get the non 7-bit
ASCII characters that would be "Gothenburg" ;-)
But actually I am from Germany where I have lived in Erlangen, Bavaria since
'88 and the years before that near Köln (damn, another non 7-bit char ;-] -
read it as: "Cologne"...)
Anyway, I have *much* to little time for my POV hobby, but if I do, I am a
modeler-snob ;c) being addicted to Moray since good old DOS days. But I know
my way around the POV-Code and, being a professional programmer, I indent
everything: Code, comments, mouse, keyboard, monitor, toaster etc...

Add another Michigander. Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Maybe we should
hold an International POV Conference here? Incidentally, Northville
is west and somewhat south of Southfield, and it is also west of
Westland. Geography is a bit odd in this area, anyway. When we cross
the bridge to Windsor, Canada, we have to drive south!

Yup... I still haven't found a place to download it. And POV hasn't done
it either.
So I just figured, taht with a true random generator(not a pseudo random
generator, as in POV), with the answer to it all as a seed, and then
returning an unexisting number, it would be prett ylikely to be life,
wouldn't it ?
I just have to render it... (haven't got any good results yet)

Well Ken, I'm guessing irvine ior Coasta Mesa but could be wrong. I used to live in
Murrieta and commute to Santa Monica (95 miles each way) got old REAL quick. Moved to
San
Jose, the real center of the universe, at least according to some:) Now commute 5
Miles.
And yes Ken I am a "wacky, propeller headed, poindexter, pocket pen pouch carrying,
programmer type! But I think I can get along with your unprogrammed personality. I
too
use no stinking modeling programs.
I love POV and wish I could get by with less than my normal 4 hours of sleep. Just
don't
have as much time to play with POV. Other hobbies are Shooting, Archery, computer
games
(DELTA FORCE), pop music and photography. So Ken quit knocking programmers or we'll
stop
writing code and you will have to raytrace with pen and paper.....

Westland is West of Garden City, South of Livonia (and I96), East of
Plymouth (and I-275). Southfield is way North and East of Livonia.

Tustin is actualy about 10 miles north of the El Tore marine base.
In Tustin itself is the Marine Air Corps helicopter division stationed
where the old WW II blimp hagers are. Both the Tustin Base and El Toro
are slated for closure very soon and local communities are scrambling
around trying to think up ways to capitolize on all of that valuable
real estate that is going to be released into their custody. There is
a very large contingent of people that would like to turn the El Toro
site into a new international airport to help relieve traffic at John
Wayne and Los Angeleus International but that is still down the road
a few years. The military has been dumping jet fuels and who knows
what else into the soil around there for over 50 years now and it has
been elevated to a superfund toxic cleanup site. I see a couple of
years at least to take care of soil remediation and detoxification
testing for all of the downstream water supplies and aquafiers.
Anyway this is about as much off topic posting I care to be envolved in.

I'm Roland Mas. I'm from the Southern part of France, although I
currently am in school in Paris.
I have used POV-Ray since it was called DKB-Trace 2.12, from the
very 1.0 on my Atari ST to the very 3.0 on the
eight-Alpha-600-MHz-4-Go-RAM I had (well, I had access to it) during
my internship. (Still waiting for the 3.1, by the way.)
I do not use any modeller. My brain is my favourite modeller. I do
not indent my code, either. Emacs does it for me. Sometimes even
bash or Perl do it for me, but I do not see it because it is piped
directly to POV-Ray.

Wouldn't you just pronounce it ram-ss-t? Still, I can see why trying to say
the letters "mst" together at the end would be a problem for some native
English speakers (me included ;) Still - that's one of the advantages of
the net - you don't *have* to pronounce it :)

I think that the 'mst' isn't the problem. It's the 'a'...

Really? I mean Rudy is simple enough, but here in Germany most people have
big problems understanding my last name at the telephone (to them it sounds
like Welltush) and even more to pronounce my name when they read it. So "De
Ruiter" could be more of a problem than Sietse. Only French speaking persons
would propably pronounce it well.

Forget it. The French can't pronounce even one syllable of my name
correctly. I always comes out as "Siesse duh Rútèr" (Dutch phonetics).
As for "De Ruiter"... Well, it's the 'ui' thing again, eh?

sPatch? Real POV snobs model their bicubics by hand!
My upcoming IRTC entry has two objects made of bicubics, one with
176 patches and one with 200 patches, and an object made from a
lathe. I didn't even use graph paper, let alone a modeler. And
I had to bang rocks together to get the 1s and 0s, uphill both
ways in blinding snow... whoops, sorry, that'd be the geriatric
raytracing thread at the end of the hall. I'll get my coat.

I'm in Durbanville, South Africa (look somewhere on the south western
part of a map of SA and you may be lucky and find it ;-p ).
I've been lurking here for quite some time, make the odd post now and
then. I fiddle around with POV when I get some time (which is not often,

A bit chilly to be running around in a T-shirt? try here, over the last two weeks we

I'm not entirely sure how you'd pronounce ram-ss-t...
Anyway, English speakers mainly have trouble with the "ram", since it's
pronounced quite differently in Estonian. As far as I know, only Germans get
it almost right.
Many Estonians have trouble spelling it right, too: it's not your typical
Estonian name. I believe it's of Livonian origin - although I doubt that
means anything to you :)
Ahh, enough off-topic rambling for one day.
