I just found a free graphic converter. Actually, two: one for 2D images, 
the other for 3D files.
It is called Imagery, and can be found at http://www.vargr.com/imagery/

Good news for Mac users, bad news for most of us: it is for Mac only...

Well, I hope it is of interest for some of you. Or perhaps it is so well 
known in the Mac world that my post is useless :-P
