Hello,

Since my old host has evaporated I decided to post the new version of
PoseRay here.

PoseRay is an utility to convert OBJ files exported by Poser4 into
POV-Ray code and Moray UDO files. It handles the geometry with the least
intervention from the user and it was done with ease of operation in mind.

It splits the obj file into separate POV meshes based on group and
materials so that you can use them separately if desired.

Make sure you read the manual for tips and troubleshooting.

thanks flyerX,

i got it! i was thinking about buying poser cuz i am interested in
doing 3D character animations. its only about $230. but then
you really need the poser pro pack, which just went up to $195,
and since poser is NOT a modeller, i'd probably need to buy
some models from daz, for maybe $150.

whoa! i think not! i haven't got that kinda money for something i
do for fun. but lets face it... there are some VERY decent human
models in poser, and your program will at least let me use some
of the open source ones in some stills.

does it handle colors and textures well? LOL... thats the big
kicker i've run into before in format conversion (spell it 3DWin
;-).

thanks, miker

Thank you.

Two remarks:

- The Megapov output is for 0.7 and the interface talks about 0.6.
- When using an OBJ with a JPG image, it converted fine, but said to use
PNG. The export wrote jpeg! I replaced all "jpeg" with "png" and it was OK
(had to convert the texture, of course)... Rendered fine, though. Good work.

This looks great - I'm about to export some military models.

One question however - do you think there is any way to export ANIMATIONS?

I was thinking if you could convince Poser to export each 'frame' of one of
their animations as a seperate .obj, it could work.

It would be a lot of (manual) effort, however, unless there was some way to
automate the animation;

i.e.

Load pose set animation

Export frame 1
Export frame 2
Export frame 3 .....

This program will also let me use characters from "The Sims" in Pov-ray (I
can export them to obj with skn2obj). Good work!!

Let me join the praise of PoseRay. It lets me use models from
Animation:Master, Poser, and Bryce. This greatly extends
the creative potential of all these programs.

Great work!
